Too Old to Float
Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast, Hand Blown Glass vessels and Iron Stands
2018

A symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast that dwells in a series of hand-blown organic shaped glass jars.
The first culture introduced in a container is called “the mother scoby”, it grows and floats on top of its liquid, shaped by its container, until it reaches its maximum weight and falls to the bottom of the jar. At this point, a new scoby grows on the surface of the very same brew evoking an eternal matrilineal journey.
The scoby resembles a discarded human skin, invoking the uncanny.
