My Mother’s Daughter
My Mother’s Daughter
Glazed stoneware ceramic
2016
A series of 12 sculptures shaped by casts of the navels of my mother and I.
The sculptures act as matriarchal imaginary organs. The belly button is seen as the link with another human being, the nourishment it provided and ultimately, its status as the original source of our individual lives. The sculptures are installed in small clusters of 2 or 3 forcing a dialogue between the belly buttons.
Installation view at VOX CLAMANDI, Palazzo Isimbardi, Milano. IV Premio Cramum - 2nd prize
