The Placenta is Dead, Long Life to the New Consumer

The Placenta is Dead, Long Life to the New Consumer
Bronze, beeswax and candle wicks
2019

A gravestone marking the death of a placenta. This piece was cast from a real placenta I collected at Homerton Hospital, London and belonging to a baby called India in 2015. The piece was later casted in bronze during a residency at Scottish Sculpture workshop in 2019.
This piece is engaging with  perception of what is worthy being glorified and what isn’t. Here life and afterlife of the abject are contemplated through dark humour.
